Let’s go for the bigger, better option!
On March 19th we had to decide how big an event we should be aiming for this year. We had to match together the funding we can hope to raise, the costs we can meet, and the level of volunteer help we can put together.
We looked at a few options, ranging from a small event mostly on Washington Street and Coleman Street without even a parade, to a something very like 2007 – which most people would say was the best Hanover Day ever.
As often seems to happen with Hanover Day, new offers of funding came in on the very day we had to decide, and convinced us that we could afford the bigger option. So expect the Hanover Fest pocket music festival on Saturday 4th July, and on Sunday 5th July the closure of most of Southover Street, stalls, food, several street sound stages and then Hanover Night events in the local pubs.
This doesn’t mean that we can all relax – putting on Hanover Day still depends on getting all the sponsorship, grants and fund-raising in that we need. So keep feeding in your ideas and contacts, and let Sarah know if there is any way that you can help.
